FAIRFAX, Minn., March 8, 2024 – When Barrel & Bushel, a new beer-centric restaurant at Tysons Corner, Va., says, “Handcrafted Just for You,” the reference is to more than the location, extensive menu and beverage list. FAIRFAX, Minn., December 12, 2023 – With nine locations in Tennessee and Mississippi, Dr. Ron Bingham has an interesting business model requiring aircraft from his hangar in Jackson, Tenn., to visit his satellite clinics in rural areas. His hangar has a 70-foot by 16-foot Schweiss Doors hydraulic door equipped with remote openers. He keeps a CJ1 and a Cirrus SR22 in the 90-foot by 70-foot new construction hangar, built by S & G Stephens Construction of Paris, Tenn. FAIRFAX, Minn., August 8, 2023 – Drew Bowlds, owner of Bowlds Construction and four self-storage sites in the state of Washington, was hit by a brainstorm while visiting his airplane hangar at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. He was in the process of permitting a new self-storage facility located in the Dupont, Wash., downtown business district. Oregon helicopter hangar features 40-foot bifold liftstrap door from Schweiss Doors
FAIRFAX, Minn., February 1, 2023 – The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is responsible for more than 15,000 miles of electrical lines and 300 substations. BPA employees, headquartered at the new operations hangar at the Redmond (Oregon) Airport, are charged with inspecting those lines. At least three times a year, crews in one of two Bell 407 helicopters patrol and inspect the company’s power lines, looking for damage to cables, insulators and towers. The new 5,500-square-foot hangar is a pre-manufactured Varco Pruden building delivered by Advanced Steel. It was erected by David Tacy Construction Inc., of Bend, Ore. Start to finish, the project, including a time-consuming site excavation, took about six months. A lot of pilots look forward to getting to their hangar and taking to the sky in their own personal planes. Such is the case with Nick Cwian, a pilot with American Airlines. Cwian has been flying professionally for 34 years and 40 years overall. He managed a glider operation for a summer prior to airline flying in 1987 and is now captain on a 737 based out of Miami that takes him on international routes to the Caribbean Islands and Latin America. Fast Fab erects CAID Industries’ Mid-West structure of the year complete with Schweiss Doors crane doors
FAIRFAX, Minn., December 8, 2022 – CAID Industries called on Fast Fab Erectors Inc. to do the design and building work for the new Tucson, Ariz., facility, featuring metal products from Mid-West Steel Building Company. CAID’s 54,800-square-foot structure is modular rigid frame, 160 feet by 240 feet, with a 40-foot eave height. Since it is located in an air corridor at Tucson International Airport, the peak height is restricted. Designers used a ½:12 roof slope to obtain the maximum eave height possible, given the restraints. Ultra Dek was used for the roofing, while endwall and sidewall panels are Shadowrib.  View Complete Article

FAIRFAX, Minn., November 3, 2022 – Brian and Bruce Frank have five Schweiss Doors bifold doors in use on their two farms near Olivia and Bird Island, Minn., and they couldn’t be happier with any other style of door on the market. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. FAIRFAX, Minn., May 4, 2022 – Every day at the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) in Hood River, Ore., is a new adventure. The museum collection is housed in more than 3.5 acres of its indoor hangar facility. FAIRFAX, Minn., April 5, 2022 – The town of James Island is a beautiful, unique island in South Carolina with a rich history. Nestled amongst the deep blue waters of the Charleston Harbor and the meandering Stono and Folly Rivers, James Island boasts scenic march views and a plethora of majestic trees. The new project is named “Solis,” which is Latin for sun. FAIRFAX, Minn., November 3, 2020 – Built at a cost of $107 million, the new Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, Conn., was completed in the fall of 2017 and serves more than 1,000 students, grades 9-12. It’s a four-story, 207,000 square foot structure with a curved façade to remind some of the hull of a ship stretching from stem to stern. Its auditorium at the south side of the school has a retractable, hangar-like bifold door that allows the stage to double as an amphitheater and to share it for indoor and outdoor performances. Michigan hydraulic hangar door is more of a hangar mancave wall
FAIRFAX, Minn., August 4, 2020 – Gary Huffman lives in southern Michigan, about 60 miles from the state capitol of Lansing. He likes to kid people when they come inside his hangar “mancave” asking him where the hangar door is. He tells them he takes the wings off his plane and brings it in through the window! Except for the telltale red hydraulic cylinders on each side of the closed door, it really isn’t very easy to tell where the hangar door is. FAIRFAX, Minn., September 4, 2019 – It’s not every day you see large aircraft moving through your city streets, but the construction of a new Des Moines, Iowa, School District training facility led to the ground transfer of several helicopters and airplanes. Since 1943, the Des Moines Aviation Academy operated one of the only three high school aviation programs in the nation, but recently lost its lease at the Des Moines Airport. FAIRFAX, Minn., July 2, 2019 – The new $13 million JD Ross Maintenance Headquarters facility in Vancouver, Wash., is Bonneville Power Administration’s (BPA) Southwest Washington base for transmission line for substation maintenance crews, substation operators, control technicians and support engineers. The seven-acre site includes a 15,678-square-foot office building and a 24,130-square-foot maintenance building. Soderstrom Architects of Portland, Ore., designed the buildings to the highest seismic resistance criteria for complete functionality during an earthquake for linemen to launch emergency repairs on transmission lines and substations. The HVAC and lighting systems are also seismically tested and certified to be immediately operable after a major quake. One thing special, especially from the architect’s point of view, was this project met Net Zero Energy criteria. On an annual basis, the facility produces as much or more energy than it uses. FAIRFAX, Minn., August 2, 2018 – Winning an award for a job well done is surely gratifying, but a satisfied customer is the top priority among craftsmen in any field. Bill Buckner of B&B Welding in Sallisaw, Okla., installed a 46- by 15-foot hydraulic door from Schweiss Doors on the Ely Helicopter Services hangar project, complete with two remote openers. The hangar was constructed with products from Star Building Systems. The building measures 70 feet long with a 16-foot eave height and a 2:12 slope on the roof. Schweiss Doors recently produced two bifold doors for a new steel hangar at Cape Canaveral, Fla. One door was 40 feet wide and 69 feet tall. The larger door was 90 feet wide and 61 feet tall. Both were equipped with automatic latches and are wind-rated to 150 mph. Upon delivery to Florida, both doors were clad in 26-gauge sheeting and feature 4-inch blanket insulation.
